The One on One Difference

“In my 30 years of Christian development, including training from some of the
best teachers available, I have never experienced as much transformation as I have now in only the first half of my first Lifeforming Coach training course.”

That is the kind of comment we continually hear in our travels around the country, though this oneDr. Joseph Umidi I heard from one of our church members this past Sunday! These are the ones we want to hear from you as you send us what you are hearing from an RTT, ACT, or other Lifeforming training or coaching session. Please keep those stories coming in to Rebekah in the next few weeks; here is why!

Lifeforming is taking the lead to research the measurable impact of Coaching to help Churches and Christian organizations embrace the unique role of one on one in the formation and development of maturing disciples and multiplying leaders. Twelve masters students at Regent University , as well as several partnering ministries, are conducting surveys from people and articles/books that can help you present coaching as a paradigm for your church to engage the culture and community around it. You can look for articles and books coming out on this in the near future!

One of the leading pastors in Washington D.C. gave this story:

“As our staff grows larger, leadership gets more complicated. More people equals more synergy. But more personalities also equals more tension if you aren’t intentionally building morale and coaching your team. And the more players you have on the team, the harder it is to keep everybody on the same page. So I’m really trying to be more intentional about team building this year. I want to do a quarterly event where we stop working and focus on personal development and team building.

Yesterday I had one of my old seminary profs, Dr. Joseph Umidi, come and do a little life coaching along with his colleague Jeff Williams. Great seminar called real talk. I’ll blog some thoughts in other posts, but if you want to check it out visit lifeformingcoach.com.

posted by Mark Batterson”

I like one of Mark’s powerful quotes; “To be irrelevant, is to be irreverent.” The staff at Lifeforming holds firmly to the value that the One on One difference is key to relevancy in both relationships and organizations. Let us know your report on the stories you are witnessing and hearing. The world is waiting for Christians and churches to recover from irreverence!

LIFEFORMING TRAINING SCHEDULING INNOVATIONS

While continuing to offer our three times a year training schedule for our Professional Track we are experimenting with offering an additional course each semester for those who could not make the registration deadline or the workshop schedule. If you know of someone who does not want to wait until May 08 to enroll we are offering our Formation Track for the first week of March, 08. Please have anyone contact Rebekah asap for any inquiries and don’t forget the $50. Referral fee to come your way per trainee who enrolls!

CALLING 7M COACHES

Lifeforming is finalizing a 7M Base Camp Adventure Guide to help small groups process their own vocational calling. Using materials developed from the Lance Wallnau seminars coaches will be able to facilitate these groups and secure coaching clients during and after these sessions.

You can receive training for these materials by attending the Lance Wallnau 7M conference in Dallas Texas this April 25-26. Lifeforming will add a mini-coaching summit during this conference to enable potential 7M coaches to be confident on how to help those who are hearing and processing the call to their vocational mountain to get started immediately following this conference.

As soon as details from Lance become available we will let you know so you can register as one who is also participating in the Lifeforming Coaching Summit. Please email Rebekah asap to let us know if you are planning on making this event!

Sincerely,

Joseph Umidi, President

Freely You Have Received!

There was a revolution underway and Jesus was sending out His 12 key leaders He has been coaching and training. They had been working with Jesus and participating with Him but now they would be sent out to do what Sam Scaggsthey had both seen and experienced. I would be willing to bet that they were excited and anxious simultaneously. Then Jesus says something interesting: “Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.” (Matthew 10:8 (NIV) He was inviting them to personally take ownership in the transformational revolution that He was igniting with them. Currently there is another chapter of a Jesus coaching & training movement sweeping planet earth where leaders are transformed forever because we are doing ministry the way He did in those early days. We call it “Lifeforming Leadership Coaching.” Many of you reading this newsletter have been touched and transformed by this ministry and do not need me to tell you how powerful it is. However, we have more leaders than we can count in countries all over the world waiting to be trained through our professional track so they too can join us in establishing a Jesus style coaching movement on all seven mountains of every nation. The only thing that stands in our way is the money to actually train them. That is why we are setting up our first ever Lifeforming Leadership Scholarship Coaching Fund to help remove this barrier. We have a dream to have a fund that would be large enough that it would produce ongoing scholarships to leaders in all arenas of life, from family to government; from marketplace to ministry and from the education environments to entertainment and media venues. God is at work and we invite you to join us in the revolution that Jesus began with the 12 that he coached! If you or someone you know are interested in contributing to this fund contact our office today for details. What a joy to serve leaders all over the world who have a dream to change their nation for Jesus! God bless you!

Sam Scaggs

International Director

Thank you for being a part of our coaching community. Please let us know if we can serve you in any way.

“JUST IN-TIME FOR 2009″

As we survey the scene in the communities and world around us we have compelling reasons to ask good questions and secure good data for making great changes to meet the needs on the present and distant horizons.

As primarily an “education/training” institution or school we are noting the following:

1. All educational institutions are struggling on numerous issues including increased costs of training, relevancy to the student of how training translates to meeting their pressing needs, delivery systems for training that does not interrupt maxed out lives, and rapidly declining student enrollments.

2. All coaching schools that meet ICF standards are expected to give “truth-in-training” disclosures that reveal the relevancy of the coach training to the actual percentages of their graduates who are gainfully employed meeting client’s needs. Smart applicants are only beginning time consuming and costly coach training with “the end in view” of what specific difference they can expect based on the track records of those schools.

3. Our present convergence of reflecting on our Strategic Plan and redesign of a new Web Site that incorporates some of the latest WEB 2.0 relational networking, communication, and marketing is the right time to evaluate our past and future approaches to assure our sustainable success. What is needed is the testing of all of our “assumptions” about who we are, what we do, and why we make a significant difference so that we do not meet needs that no longer exist or have been replaced by greater priorities in the lives of our markets.

After eight years of operation Lifeforming Leadership Coaching is serving during a critical year in our nation that will require creativity and courage. As President I have weathered a lot of changes in the landscape with our ministry and company since it’s early days. I have never seen a better staff and timing for us to position ourselves for our future.

I am committed to the kind of changes that will make us more than viable but vigorous in the coaching field. My one goal for Lifeforming is for this is to be the year that we explode in marketing, expand in staffing, and express our DNA effectively in creative partnerships and alliances with new products and services.

The end results of our hard work together should be a growing brand identity among Christians in the workplace, churches looking to meet the discipling needs of our day, and anyone looking for hope and help in the present economic environment. That means our coaches will have more business and more stories of transformation. That means our licensees will have a much higher rate of credibility and success than it took us. That means our international partners will be cutting edge with the ability to define themselves profitably and transformationaly to their cultures.

Over the last couple of months I have been reflecting and processing on how to bring together some of the lines of thought and action that we have initiated over the last years and how to integrate it into ways that make us the go-to company for meeting the needs of our day. This has led to continually asking the “so what” questions about what we do in all of our training efforts.

So what when we finally get ICF accreditation? So what if we continue to offer the most thoroughly Christian transformational training available? In other words, what difference will all of that make to the needs of the end users; those who will acquire the services of our coaches or our trainers in their organizations and churches? When we keep that end in view it actually targets our own need to redefine ourselves to our markets while maintaining the integrity of our values and core beliefs.

To that end I believe we are “Just in Time for 2009″ with beta tests beginning on 3 new initiatives that will accomplish the following:

1. Put some key client-generating tools and methods in the hands of our thousands of coaches worldwide that will address real solutions to their current challenges that people need from coaching.

2. Recruit hundreds of new potential coaches through condensed time and cost training that will open doors for them for 7M, Discipleship, and Financial issues to which they will offer solutions and sustainable change.

3. Provide effective and fruitful marketing methods to match both of the above with thousands of people who want to make a difference where they live and work by engaging a qualified coach.

Stay tuned for our next Newsletter to get more details….and PLEASE pass on to others to be part of this monthly newsletter for the innovation information that will accelerate transformation in and through them.

I am so glad that we are;

Just in-time for 2009!

President & Founder

————————————————————————————————————————-

Listen to His Voice!

Happy New Year! I was reading an article in this month’s issue of Success magazine and I could have sworn the author, Blair Singer was listening in on a private conversation between me and my wife Beverly last week! The title of the article is: “Don’t Believe Everything You Hear: Why There is More Opportunity Today, Not Less.” He says many powerful things that lit my fire but the portion that focused on “Six Ways You Can Go Down with the Economy” really resonated with me:

1. Stay glued to the news
2. Stay confused
3. Believe you cannot sell or don’t have to sell (cast vision and provide leadership)
4. Look for quick fixes instead of mastering your “little voice” (the war between your ears)
5. Blame Wall Street, the government or bankers
6. Believe the government or the Federal Reserve will fix everything

Well, you will need to buy the magazine to get the details but suffice it to say that I completely agree. I think there are a lot of preachers out there claiming that “the end is coming” but I believe God is at work in the midst of the chaos. How can I be so confident? I read my bible and He has consistently been doing that for thousands of years!

We need to listen not only to the “little voice” but the “BIG VOICE-HIS VOICE” which never stops speaking to us about our dreams, our futures and the plans that God has for each of us! God not only works through the tough times but He excels in making His plans and the dreams that He has placed in our hearts–the God-dreams, to explode during times like these! Sure, we need to be concerned and help those who are suffering but we do not need to embrace the message of the media and the world! We need to be God’s spoke persons and step up in days like these! You have the skills as a Lifeforming Coach to make a difference in this world one person at a time and one conversation at a time!

Please be in prayer for us this month! We are sending out the invitations for the global leaders to register for the upcoming 1st ever Lifeforming Leadership Coaching Global Summit! Pray that God will prompt the leaders that He wants to be there and provide for each of them to have the will, time and finances to come and help our coaching movement spread to every nation on the planet! Have a great 2009!

Training Quote of the Month

“I learned the power of short open questions and silence. I wanted to speak what I was sensing and wanted to interject my thought at least a dozen times. I learned if I remain quiet and the client is comfortable, she will speak.”

What fears are your clients expressing this Christmas season? What fears are you facing as you look at the 2009 horizon? What would Freedom from Fear look like for you and them?

Here is the gift of Christmas for all coaches who are willing to receive it and give it to others…FREEDOM FROM FEAR!

1. Fear of INADEQUACY (Luke 1:12-13) Zacharias and Elizabeth were just too old, too competent in their profession, too planned for their twilight years to take on this new venture, calling, paradigm…this ‘wild at heart’ John the Baptist baby who would “turn the hearts of the fathers to the children…” v.17)

Every coach who has this Freedom from Fear can approach any employee of the major name brand stores who will be closing down or downsizing at the end of this year to help them face their vocational and transitional inadequacies without fear. There will be no timelier gift to many in the coming months than a Fearless Coach who is focused on helping people embrace their new assignments in life without fear. Some of them may compare the impact of your life on them like a visitation from an angel!

2. Fear of INTIMIDATION (Luke 1:30, 74) Teenager Mary knew what it meant for her to be pregnant out of wedlock in her day and culture…she had seen and heard the voices of mockery and shame that had intimidated and marginalized others in her day. Who would believe her dream and “visitation” and how would this affect the most important person in her life, Joseph?

Every coach worth their transformational training knows what it means to conquer our own intimidating voices within before we tackle those around us. What assignments do others or we have that intimidates our own comfort zones or the ‘group think’ of those around us? Who are the significant people around our clients or us whose opinions are keeping us from our own destiny significance? What ‘for such a time as this’ dreams are being busted by the intimidators who control the gateways of our lives?…here is the answer; YOU HAVE FOUND FAVOR WITH GOD!

3. Fear of INSIGNIFICANCE (Luke 2:9-10) Shepherds don’t count for much in any culture. Out in the hill country they could see the glow of the city where the VIPs lived their lives in significant busyness while they followed generations of sheep trails by day and quiet stare gazing by night. Seems like the same old purposeless driven life….until they heard that ‘tailor made”, just for them Word, UNTO YOU THIS DAY….”are you REALLY talking to ME?”

Every coach knows that they have stayed the course on their search for significance; not settling for the ordinary but pressing on to the extra-ordinary. We are qualified by our own example of freedom to call the shepherds and the sheep around us to the higher ground of living their lives on target. We have discovered that the freedom is in the journey, not the arrival. The issue is what we are aiming at, not what we have hit. At the end of 2008 we simply need to ask others, and ourselves “What have we done with ‘Unto YOU this day has been given…’?”

4. Fear of INDECISIVENESS (Matthew 1:20) Joseph’s mind and heart was a battlefield of emotional and mental contradictions. Every decision was a lose/lose. Like so many indecisive men down the ages he felt he was caught in a double bind with no way out. Even not making a public example of her left him numb. He feared the consequences of every decision that his mind paraded before him.

Every coach knows that they need a coach when the options before them leave them paralyzed with indecisiveness; someone who can help them re-frame the situation, get another perspective on it, come up with creative options that have been overlooked. We know that someone will appear to us by day or night who will help us see in a new way so that we can decide with a new freedom. In days of political spin, corporate speak, and religious hype we can be a sounding board for others who can get the clarity that says “This is the way, walk in it”, “Choose this day…”, “As for me and my house, we will…”

Freedom is best known when the landscape is subject to the bondage of pessimism, anxiety, worry, dread; all contributing to a FEAR of the Future. That is why our own Freedom from Fear is the greatest qualification to coach others this Christmas and beyond. Here is your gift. Why not open it now so you can serve others and set the captives free from fear, one conversation at a time.

Because He came,
Dr. Joseph Umidi,
President & Founder

——————————————————————————————————–

It’s 2008 but 2009 is Coming!

With the holidays coming upon us it not hard to see that 2008 is going to close quickly and before you know it we will be celebrating 2009! Then it is only 8 short months before the first Lifeforming Leadership Coaching Global Summit will be upon us! Very soon you will be receiving a personal invitation from our President and Founder, Dr. Joseph Umidi and I for you to be present at this important and historical event in London, England August 7-9, 2009. We will have limited space so it will be very important that you register as early as possible. I am anticipating that we will be turning some down at least for the immediate lodging on the campus.

There is excitement building and many questions are starting to arise as a result so I thought that I would try to clarify what this summit is all about and who will be attending. This is a Global Summit so we are expecting national coach trainers and their immediate team members to attend along with their spouse. We are planning for over 20 countries to be present and maybe even more. This is the reason that we began planning this event 18 months prior to the event and writing updates beginning in September of this year. We wanted to be sure that everyone who wants to participate would have plenty of time to put this on their calendars and make plans to attend.

This is going to be a summit and not a speaking event. By that I mean we are anticipating that every national coach trainer will be speaking to everyone else about what they are doing in their respective country, what their dream is for their nation and regions beyond. There will be no “big shots!” The attendees will be the agenda. Then there will be time for us to dream and strategize on how we can continue to reach out beyond ourselves to see others join us in this Global Christian Coaching Movement!

Once you receive your invitation you will be invited to register at a special link designed just for this historical event. If you have any questions please feel free to drop me an email and I will do my best to respond to you in a timely manner. Thanks so much for praying for this global leadership summit. I truly believe God has more planned for us and our leaders than any of us can imagine! Have a wonderful holiday season!

Norwegian Winter Heats up with Coaching!

One week in Norway over Thanksgiving fueled a fire for coaching in this small but large-hearted nation. After two trips by International Director Sam Scaggs, Dr. Joseph was able to help integrate coach courses in a leading seminary, train 75 pastors and students in the Real Talk Training, and establish coach training with 33 key church planters throughout the nation. Oslo is the place where the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded but will soon become the place where the Transformed Leader will be acknowledged through Lifeforming’s great team in Norway. You will be so glad to come to London in August to meet these wonderful coaches!

Here are a few of the schools (U.S. only) in which you can receive BOTH the professional training of the LLC transformational curriculum and coaches, AND college credit together. We encourage you to enroll in them or take them as transfer credit to the school you are already attending.

Southwestern Christian University

Oklahoma City-a place known for its wind-swept plains, red dirt and horrendous tornadoes, now has a new distinction. It is home to one of the fewer than fifty universities in the nation that offers an accredited, graduate level degree in Life Coaching.

Southwestern Christian University Graduate School began offering its Master’s Degree in Life Coaching in the spring of 2008. The degree is a two year modular program that is regionally accredited with North Central Accreditation of Higher Learning, and is composed of thirty-six credit hours. The students also receive their coaching certification through Lifeforming as part of their degree requirements.

Together, the Graduate School and Lifeforming are equipping the student for the challenges of life and ministry in a 21st century, contemporary society.

John Chasteen, the assistant dean, is the director of SCU’s Life Coaching program. Chasteen says his passion for coaching stems from several “divine connections” that God initiated in his life over the past several years.

He shares, “I somehow intuitively knew that God was leading me into the arena of life coaching and immediately began to take steps to prepare myself to become a leader in the industry.” That preparation included becoming a certified life coach and trainer with Lifeforming Leadership Coaching.

Chasteen believes that leaders world-wide are embracing the ancient/modern principle of life coaching and that a silent undercurrent of preparation is now evolving that will release an army of coaches into the body of Christ worldwide.

He also deems that “many organizations including businesses, denominations and movements are scrambling to catch up with the coaching wave, implementing it into the very core of their value systems and putting it into practice from the board room to the break room.”

Coach John also shares his fervor for the coaching movement through freelance writing with Ministry Today magazine. He has a monthly column called Hey Coach John in which he communicates the validity of coaching in the contemporary church world. He also has a popular blog with numerous resources and personal articles on the topic; it can be accessed at www.heycoachjohn.com.

Southwestern Christian University is excited to partner with Dr. Joseph Umidi and Lifeforming Leadership Coaching to propel coaching to its rightful place in the church and society, thus affecting transformation in today’s world.

Need more information? You may contact the Southwestern Christian University Graduate School, or Coach John, at 405-789-7661 ext, 3447. His email address is: john.chasteen@swcu.edu.

Canyon Hills Bible College

I appreciate Dr. Umidi’s willingness to partner with us to bring Lifeforming Coach Training to the West Coast. His staff is a delight to work with and our relationship with Lifeforming has had an amazing affect at Canyon Hills Bible College. It has introduced Life Coach Training to our community and has begun to impact it in very positive ways. It is my belief that ACT trained ministers have been given tools that will help them be better ministers, our business people be better managers and leaders, and our students realize their dreams and goals in a very tangible way much sooner than without it.

It is truly an amazing thing to see someone gain focus and rekindle a sense of mission for their life. Some of the most successful people in the world have benefited from this process. Believe me when I say that everyone could benefit from coaching and coach training - it is not about trying to fix what is broken (counseling) or imparting an expertise in an area to someone (mentoring) but it is about drawing out what God has planted in your heart and taking you from where you are into the destiny that He has for you.

Canyon Hills Bible College is about to complete its fourth semester of coach training. We have successfully brought 42 students through the Accelerated Coach Training program and are finishing the Life Focus class and will be embarking on the Implementation class in January 2009. With enough interest, we may move forward into a Trainer Track as well.

The testimonies are incredible, so come join us here in Bakersfield, California and take advantage of this life transforming training.

Mary Poehner, Academic Dean and Coach Trainer

Regent University

Each semester 20-30 students enroll for the Master level course, “Foundations of Ministry Coaching” which is Phase I of our ACT course with additional academic work required. Many students then finish out Phase II of the ACT to acquire the Growth Coach Certificate and qualify to be able to offer the Real Talk Training Seminar. In addition, Doctor of Ministry students are able to take the entire professional training track with the additional doctoral academic work required as long as the classes are limited in size so that the professor is also a coach trainer who can do the transformational training as well. Watch for the growing Regent Undergrad program to offer Lifeforming training soon for college credit as well!

President & Founder

—————————————————————————————————

Transformational Stories

The staff meetings at Lifeforming always begin with the latest weekly reports of transformation that we are privileged to hear and help bring about. It makes all that we do to serve you and our future clients and coaches so rewarding. We fully intend to publish many of these on the forthcoming new Website that is in the works; which in itself will be a story of transformation. Can you imagine having a page for every one of our 21 countries with updated reports each month on their own stories!

Here are just a few that we have heard in the last 2 weeks:

” I went home after the first day of the RTT training determined to put into practice with my daughter who had become so melancholy and reclusive over the last months after the birth of our new child. As I was tucking her in she began to talk to me in response to what I learned about asking questions. When she told me that she was feeling that she was becoming invisible to us and others I barely held back telling her why she should not feel that way. Instead I “kept my advice-giving hand behind my back” and listened and asked. To my utter amazement we had the best conversation we have ever had together. I can hardly think about it with welling up in tears. I can’t imagine how great our future conversations and relationship will become because of this timely training. Thank you so much” (Oklahoma Pastor)

“I was rather skeptical that another seminar would make much difference to my family relationships but I took the challenge to put this into practice right away because the presenter promised I would be pleasantly surprised. I have to tell you that I had the most incredible breakthrough of understanding and connection with my son in years. I was absolutely shocked and humbled at the same time. This stuff works! I am now signed up for the first training course to be held at the new Training Center in New Jersey and I can hardly wait!” (Father of three in Rochester, New York)

“This presentation has been compelling and powerful. It has given us a new perspective on our ministry. We must hear more of this and have the opportunity to present this to our people. We know this will help them steward the favor that God is giving them in their vocations.” (Group of 13 African American pastors and bishops in a Washington, D.C. RTT “Taste and See” 90 minute session)

——————————————————————-

Caffeinated Coaching

What do churches in North Carolina, New York, and Virginia have in common? How about espresso with a difference; coaching conversations that bring a sustainable buzz!

Several churches are now seeing the opportunity to integrate coaching services into these conversational moments so that people can explore ways to respond to personal, economic, and cultural transitions accelerating all around us. These are great opportunities for potential coaching hours, clients, and transformational conversations around an easy entry format for exploring the power of coaching.

One excited church in Rochester, N.Y. recruited 140 people to a Real Talk Training that resulted in several who want to be “conversational coaches” in their churches’ upscale coffee shop that is the center of activity before and after every church event during the week and weekend.

One great opportunity is now opening up at New Life Virginia Beach where Lifeforming is partnering with this “church in the office park” as they open a coffee bistro to the local business community where they are strategically located. All coaches in this area who would like to offer their coffee time as a coach to see where that may develop can contact our office for more information.

What about your area of the country? Got caffeinated coaching?

——————————————————————-

Paid-in-Full

In anticipation of the current and future economic upheaval in our nation the Lord has already given those who have ears to hear the financial strategies that will both sustain them and proclaim Him where it really matters the most right now; in the pocketbooks of our families. It is so encouraging to me personally to see how many people with foresight are already designing discipleship and leadership development training that incorporates financial stewardship and wealth building that will be communicated to our children who will not go into the bondage of debt due to the ignorance of their parent’s generation.

Over the last 9 months I have read over 9 books and dozens of articles on biblical economics and have interviewed numerous leaders on the subject at apostolic roundtables, pastoral associations, and 7M leaders. One thing is clear; there is unanimity to discover viable and proven ways to enable people to be able to experience the impossible only a few years ago; the words over their credit cards, student loans, mortgages and other debts; Paid-in-Full.

There is no doubt in my mind that the future of relevant, need-meeting coaching is linked to the ability of coaches both to model and to multiply the reality of a Paid-in-Full lifestyle. This is not only for personal finances but also for those who look to you for a way through the maze of economic confusion. Now we are beginning to hear the sounds of that phrase , Paid-in-Full, from students, to parents, to pastors, and to associates as they tell us what has happened to them in just months of action-steps and growth plan coaching in the financial arena of their lives. I am so excited that Lifeforming is “Assembling the Whole Story” now in the role of economics in the pursuit of our dreams. Anticipating that reality has been one of my greatest joys in the midst of seeing so much great sorrow and anxiety in the lives of those we all care about. I know first hand that “Debt reduction is a key to Dream realization.”

You can explore one solution that is working so well for us personally and for many that we have been working with over the past months by contacting International Director, Sam Scaggs. ( sam@equityforming.com ) Because we live by the value of under promise and over deliver we will say simply and sincerely; “YOU are much closer to being able to say Paid-in-Full than you realize.”

Personally, we can’t wait to hear you and your coaching clients say that!

Lifeforming Global Summit ‘09 Update!

We hope that you are as excited as we are about the Lifeforming Global Summit ‘09 that will be held in London, England August 7-9, 2009. We will be giving you updated information with each newsletter we send out. Last month we announced the dates, location and vision for this historical summit. Here it is again if you forgot to put it in your calendar August 7-9, London England.

We are putting together a task force to help with the planning of the summit but there is one person who is already on the ground in London helping us to make the selection of our location for this incredible event. Her name is Janet Powell and she is not only a resident and citizen of England but one of our very own Leadership Coaches! Janet is doing a fantastic job helping us with some very important logistic decisions and we have finalized our location for our Lifeforming Global Summit ‘09.

We will be meeting at “The Octagon at Queen Mary, University of London!” Located just two miles from the City Center of London, the Octagon provides an intriguing solution for a wealth of events. Its flexible space, historic architecture and modern facilities combine to create the versatile venue for our historical event. The Octagon at Queen Mary, University of London is an unusual and unique London venue, and is referred to as “the jewel in the College’s crown.” We will be meeting, sleeping and enjoying our meals together on this campus for one low price which we will share very soon. If you are curious and would like to have a peak just click on this link and you can read and see pictures of this very unique environment. We want to give a special thanks to Janet Powell for helping us to discover this “jewel of a place!”

http://www.octagon-venue.com/

More important than just the venue is what is going to take place inside the Octagon August 7-9, 2009 while coach trainers and coaches from all over the world gather for these days of interaction, worship, training and planning! We will be sending out more details soon such as directions, prices and content of the meeting but for now we want to keep you informed of our progress as it takes place. We will be hearing first hand from coach trainers and coaches from every continent of the world during these historic days. Until next month, please put these dates in your calendars and pray about being present. Is it important? Yes, it is that important! If you have any questions do not hesitate contacting our team here at our headquarters.

South Africa: Coaching in the Crises

The stories of transformation coming out of our training over the last year in SA have been strong and consistent from government, business, education, and ministry leaders. As I prepared myself for a nation wide two week run of Real Talk Training and Coach Training workshops I had no idea that the timing of this trip would help to shape the destiny of a people that could well impact the entire continent.
Two days into my trip began the violence as over 100,000 foreigners were displaced from their residences, businesses, and families, with looting, killing, and suffering reported daily. The nation was in shock but the government was immobile. That is when the church is at its finest.
Tents and refugee camps were set up in churches across the country and the call and promise of Isaiah 58 was lived out in community after community. Some of the key leaders involved in this rapid response were from the hundreds of people attending our RTT and coach training. Not only did their radical hospitality serve the immediate needs of the suffering but their conversations brought hope to the hopeless and strength to those who had lost their dreams.
South Africa

In this picture I am interacting with men from the Congo who had already been displaced from three countries in their short lives. As they angrily asked me why this was happening to them again in the overcrowded and cold tent on the church property, I heard myself asking them powerful questions about times when they were overtaken by blessing in the midst of adversity. Their hearts were warmed and their eyes were moist as they realized that they would see, even in this crisis, a destiny shaping time for them and their families. That night they could sleep in the midst of the storm.
Key leaders are now seeing that the quality of the conversations is a barometer of the quality of the relationships. Several invitations are coming to bring Lifeforming training into key sectors of the society to shape the quality of the national conversation in the days ahead. Township community leaders, trade union leaders, denominational leaders, and business leaders are sensing the fullness of time for their nation and we are privileged to serve them with the sustainable change of coaching for transformation.
Lift up your eyes for the harvest is already white. Your training with Lifeforming is an increasingly valuable asset worldwide. The return on your investment is not limited to your own 9-5 window but is recognized and needed in an increasing number of nations. Through the use of updated technology we are bringing personal transformation for extraordinary conversations to those who can make the difference in crises.

President

THE GREAT OMMISSION

Matthew 28: 18-20

The following thoughts would better be served in a blog because they require the need for a “paradigm funeral” of old school thinking and a renewed mind of defining success the Jesus way. Here is a list of those thoughts to get some conversations going in your part of the world:

1. Jesus defines “success” as the bottom line of whether or not we are making disciples.

2. Discipleship is almost entirely relational in a combination of small group and one on one culture, outside of church meetings, and especially through the influence of healthy conversations from healthy families around the table.

3. Discipleship assumes we are “going into all of our world” (most of what we do outside of church meetings) to make #1 and #2 above happen. That makes “sending capacity” a better benchmark of success than “seating capacity”.

4. The end game of discipleship is for nations to be discipled (Rev. 21:24-27) so the “burning bush vision” for the church is to equip members to make disciples in the places that shape a nations; at work in the major spheres of vocations that shape the culture.

5. We have made discipleship more of a “teaching commission” at the expense of a “training omission” (v.20). Action steps that integrate and align our daily behaviors with kingdom values and Jesus commands is more hitting the mark than “fill-in-the-blank” lectures or sermon series. (Note: It only takes 45 minutes to read the teaching content of Jesus words given us in scripture.)

Recently Bill Hybels of Willow Creek authentically announced that his “seeker-friendly”congregation did not produce transformational change in the lives of its members; meaning they were not discipled. George Barna’s extensive research in the discipleship deficit in the American church brought him to the unfortunate position of an anti “organized church” position. I believe that Lifeforming can offer a way forward in this debate.

I am giving my life to the core value that Transformational Coaching is a key to making more and better disciples in our nations. Here is why:

1. It consistently targets the core factor of making a disciple; hearing God’s voice. Every religion makes disciples but a disciple of Jesus is led by Him personally (not just His principles) and has the “unfair advantage” of knowing that voice (John 10:3) in the unique design that we are created to respond to that voice (Psalm 139: 13-16).

2. It consistently maximizes the core delivery to make a disciple; a non-judgmental relationship with someone who seeks to 100% believe in you as the Father does, 100% work with you in what the Spirit is prioritizing, and 100% enable you to take ownership for your own development and progress.

3. It consistently models the authentic spiritual authority of stewarding transformation to another by first having been transformed ourselves in the same manner (2 Timothy 2:2). UNTIL SPIRTUAL FATHERS AND MOTHERS ARE DISCIPLED THEMSELVES TRANSFORMATIONALY THEY ARE DEPENDENT ON PROGRAMS AND METHODS THAT ARE INFORMATION TRANSACTIONS MORE THAN LIFE TRANSFER.

4. It consistently produces the kind of community that is compelling and engaging of the spiritual hunger in our cultures that are seeking life-giving spiritualrelationships when they turn to Christ. Lifeforming’s Transformational coaches know how to catalyze authentic relationships in organizations that shift those cultures to environments that accelerate personal development in the context of the organization’s mission.

Lifeforming Leadership Coaching has a key role to play in restoring the Great Commission in Matthew 28. We are about the Father’s business of making disciples the Jesus way. This is not an option; it is a mandate.

Dr. Joseph Umidi

“ for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” (Rev. 19:10)

Though there are different ways to interpret the last book of the Bible I like how author/pastor Bill Johnson applies this verse. He says that the more his church records and publishes what God is Dr. Joseph Umididoing to change physical, emotional, and spiritual circumstances in people’s lives the more people experience these changes on a regular basis.

We have been collecting up-to-date stories of transformation from our clients, trainees, and coaches; stories of deep and lasting change that only God could do, and for which only God deserves the credit. We believe that the more we make this known the more we will see these stories actually happen; multiplied throughout our thousands of coaches and clients through the nations.

On Friday, April 4th, I had the privilege of “holding court” for over 25 Formation Track trainees who stepped out of their live workshop to come and “tell” me their stories. No one was prepped or primed (as a professor this would be called “quantitative research”) and their was one consistent story in all of these testimonies, “this has been the most life changing training I have had in all of my years of secular or Christian equipping, it has exceeded my expectations.”

I want to give testimony of how God used our original team of Doug Fike, Tony Stoltzfus, and myself to hear and obey Him to design this transformational process that is the foundation of these ongoing stories. God brought us together to converge our own stories so that yours could come forth. In His unique timing and way we found His path to help you see and believe in others the way the Father does, partner with the present work of the Holy Spirit on God’s agenda for change, and give people over to Jesus to take His lordship responsibility in their own lives.

Every time we hear the story we are motivated to create another one. As you read the following stories let God arise in your heart to be a prophetic person, with prophetic conversations, in a prophetic generation. Tell us your story so that another person can be moved to have one for them, their family, their community, and their nation.

Give and it shall be given unto you.

“After the first six weeks of the Formation course, there is no doubt in my mind as to the ways the Lord is transforming me as a Pastor, Husband, Father, and Friend. At every level I have found applications for changing the way I listen as well as the way I hold conversations with others. Whether it is becoming more attentive to my wife and what she is really saying, or listening more intuitively to the leaders in the church, God has been at work in my life to deepen my effectiveness as a listener. I have found practical keys and principles to aid me in the development of my children as well as the principles that we are using in the development of our church family. I cannot express enough how grateful I am for the opportunity and the timing of the Formation course, and I look forward to the fruit that others will see as I continue to be transformed through the entire experience. “ -Pastor Kevin Strite

“As I was driving to my office for a phone appointment with my coach trainer, I was not interested in the scheduled subject matter we were to review, but consumed with critical business and personnel issues. “It would be nice if this appointment could focus on the situation and need I have right now.” Somewhat cynical, I even thought of this as a test of my coach/trainer’s values, “I’ll have the opportunity to see if this organization lives the values they say they have.”

Facing one of the top five most difficult situations of my life, I was wondering if my coach trainer would be there for me. As we began to talk, I could see that this was more than just a check up or training call. This was a Divine appointment. Our conversation did two things, 1) it allowed me to continue to process a difficult situation with powerful questions and insight, and 2) the perspective and understanding in new terms of the role of motivational gifts helped me understand, not only co-workers and executive team, but also my son. It was a deep drink of refreshing water. Thank you so much! -Ron Mitchell, President, Promise Network, Inc.

Using Coaching Language Enhances the Understanding of Coaching…

Even though coaching has been around for over twenty years, many people are still not clear about what coaching is and how it differs from other helping professions. Coaching has its roots in the business world and the natural outgrowth of that has been life coaching or personal coaching. Lyn EichmannBecause coaching involves behaviors, motivation, action and improvement it is often misunderstood and/or confused with the therapeutic process. In an effort to understand what coaching is, people look at the similarities between coaching and therapy, and draw wrong conclusions. One way for us to distinguish and clarify the two professions is to use the language that is appropriate for each of these professions skillfully. In this way we honor the professional differences between coaching and therapy, while equipping the public to make an informed discussion about which would be more appropriate and effective to meet their current circumstances.

The list of words can be quite long, so I will offer some now, and more in a future newsletter. But let’s get started thinking about our choice of words in order to better distinguish the generally accepted terminology of the two professions.

Therapy Coaching

Expose Focus

Intervene Prioritize

Adjust Clarify

Help/Rescue Measure

Diagnose Move Forward

Issues Achieve

Dysfunction Delegate

Symptoms Acknowledge

Outcome

Positive Action Step

Results

We will continue to look at the language of coaching in the coming months, as we continue to develop the heart and mind of a Lifeforming Leadership Coach.
